PORTO CERVO, April 27, 2026
The accident occurred during one of the most technical and demanding sections of the Sardinian rally on S.S.9 Aglientu1. The team’s absolute priority is always safety: fortunately, both the driver and the codriver emerged unharmed from the cockpit. The car’s safety systems and the timely intervention of the course marshals worked flawlessly.
“We are deeply sorry to have to abandon the Rally Costa Smeralda in this way,” stated Drive the Legend Team Owner, Simone Campedelli. “We had prepared for this event with great dedication, and it was the team’s first outing of the season within the context of the European Rally Championship. However, in motorsport, the unexpected is always just around the corner. The most important thing today is that our boys are okay.
The car can be repaired, and we will come back stronger than before. And with a new Ford Escort MKII chassis.”
The team would like to sincerely thank the organizers of the Rally Costa Smeralda for the professionalism and efficiency of the rescue operations, as well as all the fans, sponsors, and technical partners for their continuous and warm support.
The “Drive the Legend” technicians are already at work to assess the extent of the damage, with the goal of getting the car back on track for the upcoming events on the 2026 sporting calendar.
Further updates on the team’s upcoming commitments will be announced in the coming weeks.
